A tale of inter-woven destinies... This sketch comic follows the life of Pat as she discovers that her life is not as simple and care-free as it once was.
Hi, everyone!
Tangle, the webcomic, has been officially retired as of Aug, 2007. I sincerely apologize for the abrupt ending. Hopefully I'll one day be able to tack on another 3 pages to make it "slightly" less abrupt, but I'm afraid it's not going to get much better than this.
You can always find my most current projects at
Spikecomix.com, specifically the
comics page.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to follow along while this was current. You made scanning all these pages worthwhile! If you're new to this page, um... please only read this if you are very VERY bored, and don't yell at me for the terrible ending ^_^;.
History and Future of Tangle...
Tangle is the 2006 incarnation of the comic I've always been trying to do right... since grade 8! One day, while I was in University, I wanted to doodle to keep myself concious in an 8am class, but I couldn't think of what to draw. So, I decided to doodle in sequence. I chose to draw out the very-distant storyline of Spike's daughter, Pat. I settled on this one because it was so distant from my pet storyline that I didn't care if I screwed it up, and also because it was a lot more 'shoujo' than my other storylines... it was something I wanted to try.
It was when I got to about page 60 that I decided to put it online. I did this mostly because it was crowding out my binder. (this is also how
Wasted Talent was born, incidentally.) Also, the people who would occasionally look over my shoulder seemed interested. Furthermore, Wasted Talent was going through a batch of terrible hiatuses, so I wanted to give my readers something that would update "regularly". So I designed this page, and the rest is history.
Looking back, this is probably the worst comic I've ever drawn. I was drawing it with straight ballpoint plan, errors be damned, and I was 'writing' it just by putting one page in front of the other. That being said, I don't regret having done it. First and foremost, it DID successfully keep me awake in my morning classes, and that's what I wanted. It entertained at least a few people, and that's what I strive to achieve as a comicker. It also helped me to keep my paneling skills sharp at a time when I wasn't drawing any comics seriously.
Most importantly,
Tangle forced me to recognize how TERRIBLE my writing was. (And how awful it is to write comics without a plan!) So, one day while writing this comic, (November 28, 2006, according to livejournal) I decided to take everything back to the drawing board and start almost from scratch. Since then, I've been working on the new version. I read a LOT of writing books, and spent a LOT of time thinking, really focusing on becoming a better writer. It's been great, and I can thank
Tangle, in a way. It being so terrible made this happen. The bad news about this is that the revisions were not kind to the
Tangle storyline. This entire timeline has been wiped out. Many characters have changed; some changed names, some changed faces, some are barely even recognizable as the original characters, some are nowhere to be found. Nothing was sacred in my revisions. The only thing that remained are a couple of characters, and a vague mood of an elemental fantasy/scifi hybrid story.
So the good news is that something better is almost here (it's set to debut in April, 2008). If you liked ANYTHING about
Tangle, you will *probably* enjoy
Lost Omens.
Tangle will remain here for posterity, but it's now non-canon fluff. A character or two may be revived as a short story someday...
maybe.
Goodnight.
